As an engineer, Ford brainstormed and developed ways to improve the processes with which he worked. His automobile experimentation, backed by iconic inventor Thomas Edison, would lead to the development of the Ford Motor Company, which set design and production standards for subsequent companies and remains a leader in the industry today.

Ford serves as a model inventor, entrepreneur, and innovator. He is a personal inspiration for my work to improve the process and efficiency of inventing.

I wanted to share his story with our team.

This weekend, employees from Inventionland and Davison joined us on a trip to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan, where we toured exhibits and tested out the famous Model T.

“What’s the difference between invention and innovation?” a tour guide asked us. “Improvement.”

This is what Ford represents – the process of improving upon existing processes and ideas in order to find a better way. This is the spirit of our endeavors at Inventionland and Davison.

Celebrity vet Dr. Carol Osborne led a pup into a pool where the Hydro Fetch and Hydro ring were floating alongside the Arctic Freeze Bone. Osborne explained the importance of protecting pets in extreme temperatures.

Our client, Diane, aimed to do just that with her product idea, which developed into the line licensed by Hugs Pet Products. The Hydro Bone has now sold in retailers like Petco, Home Depot, and Bed Bath & Beyond, and it has been featured on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and CBS’ “The Early Show.” It is also a Dog Fancy Editors’ Choice Award winner. This event celebrates the opening of the Veterans Breakfast Club’s new Western Pennsylvania Veterans Archive, a permanent collection of 350 interviews with veterans, at the center.

Organized in 2011, the Veterans Breakfast Club holds 40 morning meetings annually in the Pittsburgh region, which consists of 10-15 stories from veterans.

After completing my education in economics and computer science at Allegheny College, I began designing a product to sanitize toothbrushes. After two years of development, I was ultimately beat to the market by a large corporation. I was discouraged, but the failure would afford me insight into inherent challenges and flaws in the inventing process.

It became my project to make this process both affordable and more efficient through the Davison Inventing Method. By developing a system that drew from my experience in both economics and inventing, I was able to offer design, development, and licensing preparation under one roof. I understand the spirit of the innovator and the power that can be accessed by nurturing an idea into an invention. I wanted to be a part of that.

What began as a small venture in the basement of my grandfather’s house has expanded into the fantastical world of Inventionland, a 60,000-square-foot design facility where new products come to life in 16 themed sets. With over 1,200 client products in stores and online, we have helped inventors from all over the world materialize their ideas for over 20 years. That’s a better way to invent.
